Nikki's Nest in Detail

Your Ayurveda Resort

Nikki's Nest, passionately managed and nestled in the southwest of India, is about a 30-minute drive from Trivandrum Airport, situated on a hill overlooking the picturesque coast near the famous Kovalam Beach (approximately 9 km away). Directly facing the Indian Ocean, this idyllic resort has been exclusively hosting Ayurveda guests and their travel companions since 1996. A tropical garden adorned with magnificent orchids surrounds the property, creating a private and soothing atmosphere. Below and framed by Nikki's Nest is a Hindu temple. Smoking is not permitted on the premises.

Nikki's Commitment to the Environment

Sustainability and recycling are key priorities at Nikki's Nest. The resort's initiatives include water treatment and the use of rainwater for the garden and laundry, a biogas facility, and the recycling of used Ayurveda oil for local companies as lubricants. Additionally, the resort supports regular waste collection on streets and beaches, as well as animal protection efforts.

Dining & Leisure

At Nikki's Nest, the two restaurants Hibiscus and Orchid delight with vegetarian and Indian cuisine. Ayurveda guests enjoy dishes from the buffet tailored to their Dosha type. Lactose-free, gluten-free, and vegan options are also available on request via SpaDreams. The communal table for solo travellers is ideal for exchanging ideas with like-minded individuals. From time to time, the chef offers Ayurvedic cooking classes - well worth attending!

Ayurveda Center

The Ayurveda Center, located in the upper part of the resort, is accessible via steps or gentle slopes depending on the accommodation's location. In 17 treatment rooms, authentic Ayurveda therapies are conducted. The experienced team includes esteemed Ayurveda doctors Dr. Praveen and Dr. Geetha, five junior Ayurveda doctors, around 50 therapists, several pharmacists, and nurses. For consultations, a German-speaking translator is available by prior appointment. In 2003, the Ayurveda Center was honored by the Government of Kerala as Green Leaf Ayurveda; today, it is recognized as Ayur Diamond Ayurveda (highest classification level). Since 2021, Nikki's Nest is also accredited as an Ayurveda Hospital NABH - equivalent to an Ayurveda clinic with medical supervision, daily treatment plans, and structured care.

Hosts Maria and Nikki place special emphasis on ensuring that not only the Ayurveda treatments but also the environment are traditional and sustainable. The oils and powders used for the treatments are produced under the alternating supervision of junior Ayurveda doctors at the sister resort, Duke's Forest Lodge (about 50 km, approx. 1.5 hours), in licensed in-house production. Tours of the plantation are impressive and can be gladly organized for you (transfer included).

Yoga

The pavilion with sea view is a perfect spot for group Yoga (Sivananda) and meditation sessions (Mon-Sat mornings). Additional yoga classes can be booked on-site (cost approx. €15-25 (£13-£22 / $16-$27) per hour).

Free Time

At the pool or the directly accessible beach, you can enjoy the gentle waves of the sea. Before diving into the cool waters, we recommend asking the lifeguard about possible currents - safety first!

During the peak season (approximately November to March), not only can you witness breathtaking sunsets, but also fascinating cultural and dance events that immerse you in the local way of life. Take time to browse through the hotel's library or send greetings to your loved ones via the internet PC. Explore the souvenir and spice shop to take a piece of India home with you. And in case you have some laundry, our reliable laundry service is at your disposal.

For the adventurous, we offer a variety of excursions - explore the picturesque backwaters, delve into the life of the villages, or marvel at the magnificent temples and palaces of the region. And if you're in the mood for a little shopping spree, you'll find charming local shops nearby that invite you to stroll around. Welcome to Nikki's Nest - where time seems to stand still and relaxation and adventure go hand in hand.

Nikki's Nest stands out as a kind of pilgrimage site, as it is located right next to Kerala's largest Shiva statue. Traditional chants and prayers take place there, but the volume is monitored both by the resort itself and the government of Kerala.

I have been visiting Nikki's Nest for more than 15 years. Everything at the resort is to my complete satisfaction. The treatment is very good, the food is second to none. Everything is very clean and the service is perfect. The renovated swimming pool is very nice. The temple next to it is very busy, with lots of visitors and pilgrims every day. Unfortunately, there are also a lot of cars driving down the narrow road, which you often have to cross as the resort is on both sides of the road. There is a pilot service for hotel guests, which keeps a close eye on them. Lying on the beach is not much fun these days. It is heavily frequented by temple visitors (which is of course the right of the Indian population). It is not good that the sewage (there are now also toilets and a restaurant at the temple) runs towards the beach and there is now a sewage lake behind the hotel guests' berth, where there is normally only a small sea water lake. You should actually protest to the municipality or a responsible authority. Unfortunately, waste water is still being discharged into the sea everywhere. And here it is still very open. The resort operator tries everything to make it nice for the guests, because some don't want to come back because of the temple. I accept the inconvenience, but I always want a chalet with plenty of distance from the temple.

The service is very good. The facility is very well maintained. The therapists and treatments, as well as the staff, are very satisfactory. Unfortunately, the complex is very busy due to a road leading to a temple. The prayers start early in the morning over loudspeakers. From 15.11. it was pilgrimage week and there were whole buses and crowds of pilgrims on the road. The beach and the sea were very polluted by the locals. I feel sorry for Nikki's Nest because we had a very nice view.
