What exactly is the fruit fast diet?
Fruit fasting is a natural healing method that intensively cleanses the body. With this modified form of fasting you do not have to give up solid food, but rather concentrate on certain foods instead. You can enjoy three to five portions of fruit, (lightly steamed) vegetables and nuts per day. In addition, freshly squeezed juices, tea and carbonated and non-carbonated water are allowed. Your body will thank you, because the purification and Detox will alleviate the strain on the organs and support the regeneration and recovery of the body. Fasting with fruit also regulates the pH balance, hormone and antibody production, stimulates the metabolism and strengthens the immune system.
Benefits of fruit fasting
Fruit cleanse for detox and purification
Fruits contain not only many vitamins, but also minerals, fiber and enzymes with which you can replenish your supply of vital substances. The enzymes also have a stimulating and strengthening effect on the liver. In combination with the high water content of the fruits, which contributes to the cleansing of the intestines, they stimulate elimination, detoxification and purification.
The fructose in the fasting fruit and vegetables provides you with sufficient energy during fruit fasting so that you will feel fit and vital despite reduced food consumption. Some people don’t even feel light-headed or unwell during this type of fast.
Strengthening the body and mind
Fruit fasting not only strengthens the immune system, but also your self-confidence: you train your self-discipline and you will notice that you can endure a day or even a week of fasting.
In addition, your craving for sweet and unhealthy food will subside and you will not experience a fasting crisis.
Lasting motivation
In addition to all these benefits to health and mind, fasting with fruit also looks and tastes great so that motivation can be maintained for longer periods. The sheer variety of fasting fruit and vegetables will help you look forward to your next meal.
It is therefore a great alternative to pure liquid fasting, which many people find too difficult to keep up.
Easy integration into everyday life
If you don't want to do a whole fasting week, fasting with fruit is also suitable for specific detox days, which can be easily integrated into your week.
Similar to the 5:2 intermittent fasting method, you then eat a normal, balanced diet for 5 or 6 days and only fasting fruit and vegetables for on the remaining days.
Types of fruit fasting
Fruit fasting can be combined perfectly with exercise, for example hiking, and thus becomes the ideal fitness holiday. Outdoor exercise improves your mood, reduces stress and strengthens the immune system. Increased breathing improves oxygen intake, stimulates your metabolism and activates your body's self-healing powers as well as your circulation. High blood pressure, blood lipid and cholesterol levels can return to normal while the muscles are trained. During a fasting week with fruit and hiking, your performance even increases and you may be able to lose some weight.
In mono fruit fasting, you should try to go for cleansing fruits such as apples, grapefruit, grapes and melons. For the duration of the fasting period, you then eat only the fruit of your choice, for example, only apples or only grapes. Again, you should be careful not to overeat, but to limit the amount to, for example, 3-4 apples a day or 1-2 oranges per meal. This fasting method is very easy to do because it requires little or no preparation.
Instead of just one fruit, you can also choose the multi-fruit variant for fruit fasting. Here you can choose your favorites from a wide selection of fruits for fasting. Of course, the fruits that cleanse well (citrus fruits, apples, grapes) are highly recommended. There are also a few things to consider with this form of fruit fasting: Since not all fruit combinations can be digested well, you should, for example, eat melons as well as citrus fruits separately and also keep the combinations of other sour and sweet fruits to a minimum. In order to avoid overeating, you should also limit the amount of fruit from the very beginning and eat slowly, so that you can consciously sense the feeling of satiety and not continue eating beyond that.
Although weight loss is not the primary goal of a fruit cleanse, it is a welcome side effect. As you become more consciously aware of your eating habits and exchanging meals for light and nutrient rich fasting fruit and vegetables, you’re bound to shed a couple of pounds. Weight loss results vary on how rigorous your fruit fast is and could yo yo back if you don’t maintain a balanced and healthy diet after fasting.
Suitable and unsuitable fruits for fasting
Fruit and vegetables with a high water, vitamin and enzyme content are particularly suitable and effectively promote the cleansing of the body. These include melons, oranges and grapes. Apples, lemons, mangoes, pineapples and papayas are also popular. Suitable vegetables that grow above ground are peppers, courgette and tomatoes.
Bananas are also allowed and have the advantage of being filling and energizing, which can help you to stick to your treatment for longer and also to do sports. However, because of their starch content, bananas are not considered to be quite as cleansing as the other fruits.
Preserved fruit is completely unsuitable as it contains far too much sugar!
