Nestled away from mass tourism, the resort, exclusively reserved for Ayurveda guests and their travel companions, is situated directly on a fine sandy beach. Enjoy traditional treatments, yoga, and meditation of the highest standard under caring supervision. Highly praised for its exquisite Ayurvedic cuisine, authentic Panchakarma, top-notch medical support, and exceptional service.
Founded in 1995, the Surya Lanka Ayurveda Beach Resort offers a tranquil oasis on the fine sandy beach of Talalla in southern Sri Lanka, far from the major tourist flows. As a pioneer of authentic Panchakarma treatments, it attracts many loyal Western guests. Under the dedicated Sri Lankan-Australian management, Ayurveda is practiced here with attention to detail and according to ancient tradition. Nestled in tropical nature, the resort provides individually tailored treatments and a caring team for a restorative and holistic break.
Fresh Ayurvedic meals from the buffet are primarily enjoyed in the lush garden under palm trees with views of the pool and sea. Chicken or white fish is also offered three times a week, as well as on BBQ evenings. Weekly Ayurvedic cooking demonstration. Herb garden.
At the Ayurveda Center of Surya Lanka Resort, guests experience the essence of authentic Panchakarma therapies, conducted according to the ancient principles of "Ashtanga Samhita". The experienced team of doctors and therapists, trained to cater to the needs of Western guests, offers individually tailored treatments in 16 rooms, including Abhyanga, synchronised and thermo massages, as well as warm oil treatments like Kati Vasti or Uro Vasti. The focus is on a holistic therapy concept based on four pillars: high-quality treatments, selected medicine, nutrition, and yoga/meditation. Yoga and meditation sessions are held by the pool or in the yoga pavilion.
At Surya Lanka, the Ayurveda Panchakarma therapy is divided into three stages (Karmas). During the Purva Karma (pre-treatment), toxins are gradually released through oil massages, internal oiling, and steam baths, so that they can be flushed out during the Pradhana Karma (main treatment) through Vasti (enema), Nasya (nasal/sinus cleansing), Virechana (purgation), and optionally Vamana (therapeutic vomiting). The final stage, Pashtata Karma (post-treatment), includes regenerative treatments and the final dietary adjustment.
The quaint library, stocked with books and magazines in both German and English, invites guests to browse at their leisure. The 18-meter freshwater pool, nestled in a tropical garden with towering palms and blooming plants, offers a picturesque alternative to the Indian Ocean. On the pool terrace, guests can enjoy yoga and meditation surrounded by nature.
In the well-maintained garden of the resort stands a sacred Banyan tree, a reminder of Gautama Buddha's enlightenment. The long, tranquil sandy beach, used by fishermen, is perfect for relaxing walks; swimming is possible here after consulting with the lifeguard.
The Surya Lanka Ayurveda Hotel is actively committed to sustainability and social responsibility in the Talalla region. It supports the local community through education, employment, and purchasing regional products. Environmental awareness is demonstrated by the use of recycling filters for drinking water, the use of groundwater for garden irrigation, and energy-saving measures. Following the 2004 tsunami, the resort played a significant role in restoring the village infrastructure. A solar power system is currently being planned to reduce electricity consumption sustainably and decrease dependence on fossil fuels.
Across several buildings, a total of 43 double rooms with either a balcony or terrace are available: tastefully simple, furnished with wood materials, and deliberately without TV and telephone. The view extends to the garden or sea, with fans and high ceilings ensuring a pleasant temperature. There are 24 Garden rooms with garden and/or sea view, 5 Beach rooms closer to the sea with sea view, and 14 New Wing rooms in the newest part of the complex, near the restaurant. All rooms are also available for single use. The rooms are equipped with a mosquito net. Upon advance reservation and availability, rooms with air conditioning are also available (€10 per room per night) (approx. UK £9 / USD $11). Wi-Fi is available in the rooms and the lobby. Alcohol and smoking are not permitted in the living areas.

A beautiful, simple hotel with great staff, a beautiful, quiet beach location and wonderfully healthy cuisine. The concept of giving everyone the space for inner contemplation and regeneration is supported by asking people not to talk to others about their own "conditions". Which is great! Also, if you are traveling alone - there were many of them - you are seated individually at the table with the option to change this yourself. It took some getting used to at first, but then it was a real blessing. Only a few people have changed this:-) The medical care was good, as were the many treatments. The massages are more of a "soothing massage" and cannot be compared with physiotherapeutic massages. The yoga classes were great and a very good addition, but challenging for the untrained or restricted. An additional ChiGong program would be the icing on the cake! 3 weeks. That was pure relaxation! I have found my center again, the energies are flowing, no trace of fatigue anymore. I will definitely do it again.

I was already deeply relaxed in the first week and have recovered very well.
