Guests can also partake in an authentic spiritual experience at the Tirta Empul water temple, built in the 10th century and still a pivotal element in Balinese mythology today. During a purification ritual in 30 different water sources, travellers undergo a profound spiritual cleansing - from protection against nightmares to the clarification of chakras.

The COMO Shambhala Estate is nestled in the lush rainforest of Payangan near Ubud, surrounded by tropical trees, bamboo groves, and the sacred spring revered by the Balinese for its healing properties. Here, in the cultural and spiritual heart of Bali, you will experience tranquility and pure nature, while the artistic city of Ubud with its temples, traditional markets, and galleries is just a short drive away. The expansive estate blends harmoniously into the hillside landscape along the Ayung River and offers breathtaking views of the Balinese jungle. Walks through the rice fields, visits to local artisan villages, or spiritual cleansing rituals at the nearby water temple Tirta Empul make your stay a deeply authentic experience, closely connected with Balinese culture and nature.

Nestled in the Balinese jungle, the retreat centre features 12 treatment rooms, outdoor spring water pools, a 25-metre pool, a hydrotherapy and vitality pool with circuit training, as well as a sauna and steam bath, creating the perfect environment for profound rejuvenation. The multi-award-winning spa combines modern science with traditional healing methods. Guests enjoy personalised treatments such as Ayurvedic treatments, Balinese massages, acupuncture, and hydrotherapy, complemented by yoga, pilates, and meditation in open pavilions overlooking lush greenery. Following an extensive redesign, "Ojas" was re-launched in July 2025. New advanced health treatments now also include:

Fitness & Courses

The fitness and Pilates studio, along with two yoga pavilions, complete the offerings, creating a space where tranquility, healing, and sustainable relaxation are truly experienced. Weekly schedule includes about 3-4 sessions daily, each lasting approximately 60-75 minutes, such as Flow Yoga, Yin Yoga, Pranayama breathing exercises and meditation, circuit training in the fitness studio or in the pool, Pilates, and endurance training.

Free Time

The renowned Tegalalang Rice Terraces are located approximately a 30-minute drive from the hotel. The area is also ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, cycling, rowing, or rafting. Within the gardens of the COMO Shambala Estate, there is an ancient spring with rejuvenating sacred water, just steps away from the Ayung River. Here, you can participate in a guided water spring blessing (for a fee). The hotel also offers cooking classes (for a fee).

The accommodations at COMO Shambhala Estate are spread across five private residences, each nestled into the jungle and river landscape. Each residence comprises several suites sharing a common pool, lounge, and dining area, allowing guests to enjoy both privacy and a communal living experience. Additionally, there are standalone pool villas with private pools and Jacuzzis. Some residences have been gently renovated in recent years (Wanakasa and Bayugita), while others retain the original design by Cheong Yew Kuan featuring Balinese architecture, natural stone, and traditional Alang Alang roofs.

Tirta Ening ("Clear Water") Not yet renovated, featuring a Japanese water garden and a private waterfall at the main suite. Four suites: one COMO Shambhala Suite and three Terrace Suites.

Tejasuara ("Sound of Fire") Not yet renovated, constructed from natural stone from the island of Sumba. Four suites: one COMO Shambhala Suite and three Estate Suites.

Umabona ("House of the Earth Son") Not yet renovated, overlooking Mount Batukaru and influenced by Majapahit palaces. Five suites: a two-story COMO Suite (available upon request) and three Terrace Suites.
