Amuna Ayurveda & Wellness Retreat in Detail

Your Ayurveda Resort

The Amuna Ayurveda & Wellness Retreat is far more than a traditional spa hotel: Inspired by the traditional village life of Sri Lanka, the retreat blends harmoniously into the green landscape around Dambulla and Sigiriya. Dwellings (double rooms), Tree Houses, and a villa are spread among rice fields, gardens, and lush vegetation, combining traditional architecture with modern comfort. Natural materials such as clay, bamboo, wood, and stone shape the sustainable concept. The restaurant, Ayurveda Center, consultation rooms, and yoga and meditation areas are nestled in the expansive nature, creating a particularly tranquil atmosphere. At the heart of the stay is a holistic understanding of well-being: Ayurveda, yoga, meditation, mindful eating, and closeness to nature all interconnect. The rooms are deliberately designed without televisions, focusing entirely on peace and regeneration. Wi-Fi is available in the restaurant area.

Location & Surroundings

The region around Sigiriya in the heart of Sri Lanka is part of the so-called Cultural Triangle and impresses with its unique landscape and historical diversity. Tropical vegetation, lush green rice fields, and pristine villages shape the idyllic scenery of this area. Nearby is the famous Sigiriya Rock, a striking monolith and UNESCO World Heritage Site, considered one of Sri Lanka's most significant landmarks. The tranquil, nature-close setting makes this area ideal for relaxation, meditation, and nature observations away from mass tourism.

Dining & Leisure

Nutrition is a vital component of the holistic Ayurveda concept. Meals are tailored to each individual's Dosha type, treatment plan, and personal needs, and are prepared with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients whenever possible. Fruits, vegetables, herbs, and spices are often harvested from our own gardens or local surroundings. The cuisine embraces the six Ayurvedic tastes, blending health benefits with the flavours of traditional Sri Lankan cooking. Emphasis is placed on gentle preparation and the use of natural, unprocessed foods. Allergies and intolerances can be accommodated with prior notice.

Ayurveda Center

At the Ayurveda Center, personal care for each guest is paramount. The journey begins with a comprehensive consultation with an Ayurveda doctor, considering constitution, current needs, and personal goals. Based on this, treatments, diet, and supplementary activities are tailored individually, with regular follow-ups throughout the stay. Facilities include classic Ayurveda treatment rooms, separate rooms for Shirodhara treatments, Ayurvedic steam baths, and areas for herbal baths. An on-site herb and spice garden provides plants traditionally used for Ayurvedic treatments and herbal preparations. Depending on the booked program, treatments may include Ayurvedic massages, oil and herbal treatments, Shirodhara, and Panchakarma detox therapies. Yoga and meditation complement the Ayurveda concept, occurring regularly each morning and evening.

Free Time

The natural surroundings of Amuna are an integral part of the retreat experience. Strolls around the property and along the Nature Trail, bike rides through nearby villages, or serene moments among rice fields and tropical vegetation offer ample space to unwind. Depending on the booked programme, cultural and nature-centric experiences as well as excursions are also offered, for example to Sigiriya, Dambulla, or Minneriya National Park (some at an additional cost). For those who wish to swim in between, the pool of the nearby sister hotel is available - a complimentary shuttle will take you there in about 5 minutes.
